Linder's Greenhouses, Garden Center, Flower Marts and Landscaping
Project description
Forest Lake city ordinances allow temporary seasonal sales, including Linder's Flower Mart, to operate in the city for up to 60 days. For nearly a year, the Forest Lake City Council had been considering a proposal that would ban temporary seasonal sales operations, including Linder's Flower Mart.
Why they came to Goff & Howard
Linder's wanted to run a grassroots campaign to let citizens of Forest Lake know that the city council was considering this ban and the potential ramifications of the ban. Linder's came to us to help guide the company in its grassroots campaign and amplify its messages within the community.
How we have assisted them
We helped Linder's develop a strategy for the campaign and give internal employees the tools they needed to talk with fellow community members. We helped define key messages, coordinate a petition-drive, and communicate via a Web site, Facebook, and e-mail. We also worked with the client on media relations with newspapers and television stations, resulting in media coverage that raised awareness of the proposal.
Results
The Forest Lake City Council received an overwhelming show of community support for Linder's and other seasonal businesses through phone calls, e-mails, and a petition with more than 500 signatures. Due to this grassroots energy, the city council voted 4-1 in favor of allowing Linder's and other seasonal businesses to continue operating in the city.
"Goff & Howard knew the exact mix of communications and coalition-building efforts to help Linder's address a local regulatory issue on a tight timeline. We raised awareness in the community and drew on the strength of public support to successfully keep our business going strong in Forest Lake. We would happily recommend Goff & Howard to others."
